Trinidad: Tobago mother charged for cruelty to children

A 44-year-old woman from Tobago has been charged with cruelty to her three children — ages four, six, and eight — for leaving them alone at home for a long period of time, according to media reports.

She was granted bail in the sum of TT$50,000 with a surety after appearing virtually before a Scarborough magistrate on May 12.

The unemployed woman was arrested after cops visited her home on May 11 and discovered her three children were left alone for a long period of time.

She was reportedly arrested and charged the same day by a female officer attached to the Tobago Division of the Child Protection Unit (CPU).

According to reports, the children were immediately taken by the CPU, the mother located, and charged with three counts of cruelty.

The magistrate’s court has since ruled that the children be placed into the care of their father, according to media reports.
