Trinidad: Nurse stabbed, body burnt

A nurse was stabbed to death then her body set on fire at her home located at Ajim Baksh Street, Malabar in Arima on Friday, May 28, 2021, according to media reports.

The deceased has been identified as Amanda Leid, 33, who was reportedly killed during an altercation with a male relative shortly before 5 p.m.

The suspect, who is in his late 30’s, is currently under police guard at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital after he allegedly showed up at the medical institution Friday night with burns.

Caribbean News Watch understands that police were informed that the screams of a female were coming from Leid’s residence.

Police discovered Leid’s house on fire when they arrived at the scene.

With the help of residents, police extinguished the fire and entered the house where they found her burnt remains on the iron frame of a bed.

She had what appeared to be stab wounds to her back, according to news reports.

Ironically, friends and relatives said Leid supported campaigns against domestic violence, particularly violence towards women.

They described her as kind and loving.
