Trinidad: Couva fitness trainer “Mr. Fit” dies in bike crash

A well-known fitness trainer from Couva has died following a motor vehicle accident on the Southern Main Road on Friday night.

He has been identified as Josiah Jamieson Phillip, 23, popularly known as “Mr Fit”, a resident of Paradise Avenue, Calcutta No. 3, McBean Village, Couva, and a worker at the SJ Transformation Fitness.

According to a police reports, at about 6:10 p.m., Phillip was riding his motorcycle along the northbound lane when he attempted to overtake a van but collided with a truck.

His body was thrown some 20 feet from the scene, landing in a drain, according to reports.

Philip was pronounced dead at the Couva Hospital.

Media reports say Phillip was the father of one child and was expecting another one.

His girlfriend Lysel Hippolyte said in a Facebook post that on Friday Phillip called her to find out what his kids and she are doing and “I told you to be safe”.

“What am I going to tell (child’s name removed) when he ask for his daddy? You were supposed to see your unborn baby for the first time tomorrow on an ultrasound. You didn’t even get to see him or hold him for the first time. Thank you for being a great father to our son. Thank you for being a great person to me. I’ll forever love you. Your legacy will forever live on. I wish I could get up in the morning and it will be just a dream. Lord Jesus, please give me the strength because I can’t do it without you.”
