Guyana: Three in custody for bus driver’s gruesome chopping murder

Several days after a 38-year-old minibus driver was chopped to death at his home in Kuru Kuru Sandpit, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, three persons are currently in police custody being questioned in connection with the gruesome murder.

The victim, Marcus Thomas, was killed last Tuesday, May 11, 2021.

Police said the three suspects were arrested in Parika, East Bank Essequibo on Friday, May 14, 2021.

They are expected to be charged soon.

According to reports, the bus driver was attacked shortly after arriving home, at about 6:30 p.m.

The perpetrator/s is reported to have kicked his door to his home down before chopping him to death.

Police believe the killing stems from an incident in August last year in which Thomas sustained chopped wounds to his head and belly area and another man suffered a partially severed ear and other wounds.

Police said Thomas has always been at odds with the relatives of a woman he was dating.

Two suspects involved in the 2020 incident were arrested then released on bail, according to media reports.
