Guyana: Teens among three charged for chopping bus driver to death

Police in Guyana have charged three persons including two teenagers in connection with the gruesome chopping murder of a Kuru Kururu minibus driver.

Charged on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 were Anal Hope, 19; Rowl Cozier, 17, and Kevin O’Neal, 21, all of First Dam Alliance Road, Timehri, East Bank Demerara.

They are accused of killing 39-year-old Marcus Thomas who was attacked and chopped to death shortly after arriving at his Kuru Kururu, Linden/Soesdyke Highway home on May 11. They gained entry to his home after kicking open his door.

The trio appeared at the Providence Magistrate’s Court where they were not required to plea to the indictable charge.

The case has been adjourned to June 10, 2021.

Police believe the killing stems from an incident in August last year in which Thomas sustained chopped wounds to his head and belly area and another man suffered a partially severed ear and other wounds.

Police said Thomas has always been at odds with the relatives of a woman he was dating.

Two suspects involved in the 2020 incident were arrested then released on bail, according to media reports.
