Guyana: Pastors robbed by gunmen

A male pastor and a female pastor were the victims of an armed robbery that occurred near a supermarket on Sheriff Street in Georgetown on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, police said in a news release.

The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. near the Nirva supermarket.

According to police, the 33-year-old male pastor and his 36-year-old counterpart were heading to the said supermarket when the bandits pulled up to them on a black motorcycle.

Police said the pillion rider got off the bike and pointed a gun at the duo, demanding that they hand over their belongings however the children of God refused,

This prompted the gunman to burst a shot in their direction which luckily did not hit them. It was at that time the pastors allowed the bandit to take their belongings which consisted of a brown Timberland wallet, national ID cards, driver’s license, NIS cards, Republic Bank card, Republic VTM card, and $2,000 in cash, along with a gold iPhone XS Max valued at $250,000, a black wallet valued at $2,000, a T&T ID card, T&T license, $3,000 in cash and a red Fransico handbag valued at $10,000.

Police are investigating.
