Guyana: Four arrested for guns, ammo

Four persons were arrested early Wednesday morning, May 26, 2021, in connection with the seizure of two guns and several rounds of ammunition in two separate incidents in the city of Georgetown, according to a police press release.

Acting on a tip, minutes before 4 a.m., police said they proceeded near Tower Suites Hotel on Main Street where they met a driver who is a resident of Durban Street, Lodge.

With permission from the driver, the lawmen carried out a search of his person and discovered a 9mm Glock 19 pistol with serial number #FLD741, along with one suspected 9mm ammunition. He was arrested and remanded at the Brickdam Police Station.

In the second incident, the police, acting on more intelligence, went to Brickdam, near the St. Stanislaus College, at about 4:30 a.m. There they met three men in a white Toyota Axio motor car: a 23-year-old student of Norton Street, Lodge; a 27-year-old taxi driver, and a 23-year-old labourer, both of Durban Street, Lodge.

Nothing illegal was found during a search of the men, however, something illegal was found after the trio agreed that the cops can search the car for guns and ammunition,

According to the press release, a .32 Taurus pistol with its serial number scratched, along with two live .32 ammunition were found under the driver’s seat.

The men were arrested and remanded at the Brickdam Police Station.

The firearms and ammunition confiscated were lodged at the station as investigations continue in both incidents, the release said.
